Through storytelling and lived experience, I take you beyond what grief is and into what it actually looks like when you’re living through it.

This book gets into the stuff that happens after the loss.

  • The family drama nobody expected.

  • The relationships that change.

  • What happens when the strong friend finally gets tired.

  • Why asking for help can feel so uncomfortable.

  • How to start processing what you’ve been carrying.

  • How to honor who you lost while still allowing yourself to live.

  • How grief and joy can exist in the same life.

Sometimes we don’t realize that what we’re experiencing is grief. We just know something feels different.

You may still be doing everything you’ve always done. Going to work. Taking care of your family. Running your business. Showing up for everyone who depends on you.

From the outside, it may seem like you're handling everything just fine. But what if you aren't?

Life looks normal, but you don’t necessarily feel normal.

Maybe you’re more tired than usual. Your patience is shorter. You don’t feel as connected to certain people anymore. You find yourself staying busy because it’s easier than sitting still. Some days you feel okay, and other days something small can bring emotions you thought you had already dealt with right back to the surface.

That can be confusing, especially when time has passed and you feel like you should be doing better by now.

Grief doesn’t always announce itself.

Sometimes you don’t recognize how much a loss has affected you until you start paying attention to what changed afterward.

That’s why understanding your grief matters. When you can recognize what you’re experiencing, you can begin to understand yourself differently too.

What Makes Grace After Grief Different

You can Google the stages of grief. You can read the definitions. You can learn what grief is supposed to look like.

But knowing what grief is and knowing how to navigate your own grief are two different things.

But knowing what grief is and knowing how to

navigate your own grief are two different things.

Grace After Grief goes beyond the textbook version of grief. We’re getting into the real-life stuff—the conversations that happen behind closed doors, the things you may be afraid to admit out loud, and the parts of grief that don’t fit neatly into five stages.

There’s no perfect timeline here. No pressure to “move on.”

No pretending every day is a healing day.

Just real conversations about grief, life after loss, and learning how to make room for both what you’ve lost and the life you still have ahead of you.

Why I Wrote Grace After Grief

I felt Grace After Grief needed to be written because so many people are struggling in silence.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with people who have experienced grief in many different ways.

The losses may be different, the relationships may be different, and the circumstances may be different, but I started noticing how similar so many of the experiences were.

The questions people were asking. The emotions they were trying to make sense of. The pressure to be strong. The loneliness that can come after everyone else goes back to their lives. The guilt that can come with experiencing joy again. The relationships that change after loss.

So many people were experiencing things they thought were unique to them, when in reality, they weren’t alone at all.

I also knew I had something unique to offer because I wasn’t writing about grief from one perspective. I have the professional experience of working in the grief space and the lived experience of having to navigate grief myself.

Before losing my mother, I had never experienced the loss of someone so close to me. Her death was sudden, and I had no idea what grief would look like for me or how much of my life it would affect. The losses that followed also happened suddenly, leaving me no time to prepare for what came afterward.

What I didn't understand at the time was how many layers of loss could exist beneath the original loss. I wasn't just grieving the people I had lost. I was grieving parts of myself too. My identity. My confidence. Everything I thought I knew about life.

I had to come to terms with the fact that I would never go back to being the person I was before. There was also the pressure to appear okay when I wasn't, and the realization that grief could show up years later in ways I never expected.

A lot of what I eventually learned about grief, I learned because I had to live it.

That is a big part of why Grace After Grief exists.

That is a big part of why Grace

After Grief exists.

I wanted to create a book that felt less like someone teaching you about grief and more like a conversation with a close friend. One you could return to in different seasons and take something different from each time.

More than anything, I wanted people who look like me to see themselves in these pages. I wanted them to know there is a book written by someone who doesn't just understand grief in theory but has lived it. Someone who gets it. Someone they can relate to.

Long before I became an author, I was having honest conversations about grief through Can I Grieve, working with individuals and communities, facilitating workshops, and creating spaces where people could talk about the parts of grief we don't always say out loud.

Over the years, that work has continued to grow. Today, I bring conversations around grief, loss, wellness, and the pressure to always be the strong one into community spaces, organizations, workshops, and speaking engagements.

Grace After Grief is simply another way for me to continue those conversations, this time beyond the room and onto the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this book only apply to grieving a death?

No. Grace After Grief talks about death-related loss, but it also makes room for the losses we don’t always recognize as grief, including relationships, friendships, careers, identity, dreams, major life changes, and the life we thought we were going to have.

What if my loss happened years ago?

There is no expiration date on grief. Sometimes we do not recognize how much a loss changed us until years later. Grace After Grief can help you look at what changed afterward and better understand how that loss may still be showing up in your life today.

Do I need to read the book from beginning to end?

No. This is not a book you have to rush through. You can pause, revisit a chapter, or spend more time with the sections that speak most directly to where you are.

Is this book going to tell me how I should grieve?

No. Grace After Grief is not about giving you a perfect timeline or telling you the right way to grieve. It is about helping you better understand your experience and giving language to some of the things grief can change.

Does healing mean forgetting or moving on?

No. Healing does not require you to forget who or what you lost. Grace After Grief makes room for honoring what mattered while also allowing yourself to continue living.

What’s the difference between the book and the Companion Workbook?

The book helps you understand the experience. The Grace After Grief Companion Workbook gives you space to go deeper through reflection questions, exercises, and prompts connected to what you are reading.

Is Grace After Grief a substitute for therapy?

No. Grace After Grief is an educational and reflective resource. It is not a replacement for therapy, counseling, medical care, or crisis support.

When will I receive my book?
